Tattnall’s annual Spotlight on the Arts

A letter from Julie Jones concerning our 2013 Spotlight on the Arts Program and schedule:

It’s that time of year! Tattnall’s annual Spotlight on the Arts is right around the corner, Thursday, May 9th.  Please come out and join us for a night of visual arts, music, literary, and culinary fun.
The children have worked all year to reveal their art at this exhibit. They are very excited to show you their art work and to view their awards.
Elementary Music will be preforming fun dances in The Athletic Complex, and the High School One Act Team will be in character to create a festive atmosphere. The 5th and 6th grade band, as well as, the 7th- 12th grade band will entertain throughout the evening in Trojan Hall.
We are also excited to see and taste the various Picasso inspired cakes that will be brought in for the fourth annual cake decorating contest.
Spotlight on the Arts is such an anticipated event each year. Please join us for this fabulous night!

Your Community Needs You

The year is drawing to an end so community service hours should be on your mind. Two 5th grade students have turned in their hours so far. We would like to have the verification sheets, located our Tattnall website under the "Campus Life" tab, in as soon as possible. Please recall that each 5th grade student is required to have 6 hours of community service this school year, and the verification sheet needs to be turned in to your child's homeroom teacher.

TSA Needs Y-O-U!

Annual fund... those words sound scary and expensive. We must understand that giving to this fund for our school does not have to be a financial burden. In fact, as one of our wise parents said, "We would be better off having 100 families giving $10 than having one family donating $1,000."

When all of our TSA families show their support for the annual fund, our administration will be able to go to local and national companies and foundations and say to them, "We have 100% of our families contributing to our fund. Will you support us as well?" Companies will not support a school that is not supported by its own first. Give to the annual fund and support what we are doing at Tattnall to give your children the best education in Macon, Georgia.

Please pray about your contribution and give what ever you are able so that we as a 5th grade have shown that we believe in what our school is doing and make it possible to do even more for our children.

Important Calendar Changes

Spirit Dress Day has been postponed until Friday.  For a $1 donation, students, faculty, and staff may dress in appropriate RED and/or BLACK t-shirts with regular Spirit Day pants.  To show that students have donated, teachers are asked to mark a RED X on the student's hand.  Proceeds will go to Human Trafficking Awareness.
Also, please look for the blue Field Day order form in your child's folder today.  These order forms and money are due back to your homeroom teacher by Friday, April 12.  Field Day will be held on Friday, April 26th.

ITBS Testing Tips

Dear Parents,

Spring is almost here, and we hope that everyone is having a successful school year!  It is now time to begin preparing for standardized testing.  This year Tattnall Square Academy is administering the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in grades 1-8.  The elementary and middle school will be testing the week of April 8th.  We want each student to have a positive testing experience!  As parents and teachers, our desire is for the students to do their personal best.  We are including some “Test Wise Tips” that we hope will help you and your children prepare for this event:

 1.      Make sure your child has several restful nights of sleep.
 2.      Start the morning by eating a nourishing breakfast.  Hunger can be a distraction during the test.
 3.      Create a relaxed environment at home.  Try to avoid activities that may cause anxiety, conflict, or any unpleasantness.
 4.      Lay out clothes the night before and set the alarm clock a little early to avoid rushing in the morning.
 5.      Make positive comments and encourage your child to do his/her best!
 6.      Send two #2 pencils to be used for the test each day.

Thank you for the continued support and encouragement, especially during this important week!  We know that each child is going to do great!  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at susannah.allen@tattnall.org or melisa.clay@tattnall.org .

Sincerely,
Susannah Allen & MeLisa Clay
