The Whipping Boy

In reading class, we are currently enjoying the Newbery Award winning novel, The Whipping Boy, written by Sid Fleischman. This entertaining book is about an incorrigible, young prince named Horace who is better known by all as Prince Brat and his whipping boy, Jemmy. Ask your 5th grader all about this great read!

New Pictures on our slideshow!

Fifth graders became cartographers today by making topographic maps from modeling clay!  Ask your child what contour lines are and what information scientists can learn from them.

Also, walk down our 5th grade Wall of Fame and get to know our 5th graders by reading their "5th Grade Times."  You might learn something great about each one!

Celebration Chapel

The last Wednesday of each month will be a "Celebration Chapel!" Many accolades will be given to our students including the presentation of "Birthday Books".  The form for purchasing a birthday book for your child is in your child's Monday folder.

If your child has an August birthday , it is not too late to get his/her birthday book ordered!  Just send the form back tomorrow and the presentation will take place this Wed. at chapel!  Parents are encouraged and welcome to come to our chapels at 8:20 every Wed.

FYI

We are all enjoying the new privilege of eating a snack in the morning!  We would like to suggest that the students bring healthy snacks!  Some suggestions are grapes, apple slices, cheese and crackers, raisins, celery/carrot sticks, etc.  Please try to limit candy and cookies for home snacks!

Also, if you have not brought in a 3 pronged folder for Science Lab, please do so by the next Science Lab class meeting! (Green - Tuesday, Hinson - Thursday)

The Sale is on!

Our magazine sale is in full swing!  The ducks are quacking and waiting to be chosen!  The turn in dates are on the following Wednesdays:  August 24, August 31, and September 7.  Please ask friends, neighbors, relatives, and business associates to buy or renew their magazines from you or your child.  These funds help our school tremendously in many ways!  Our goal is $50,000, with a SUPER goal of $60,000!  Help us reach this by having 100% participation in both of our classes!

Bits and Pieces

* Friday Wear:  The same policy from last year will be in place this year for Friday dress.  Children may wear appropriate length shorts, skirts, dresses;  they may wear tshirts (Tattnall, Church preferred), jeans, or athletic shorts. 

* We are in need of volunteers for the magazine sale on Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Please contact Jenny Stubbs for more information.

The First Day!

What a great start to an awesome 5th grade year! We had a productive and fun day, and we look forward to a full day of learning tomorrow.
