The 5th graders will be giving a "Book Talk" to the class. Book talks are given to share new book titles with each other and to entice others to read interesting books. This will also give our 5th graders an opportunity to speak publicly.
Each student has chosen the book that they are going to talk about, and they have also chosen a date on which to give their talk. They have seen several examples of book talks as well. Now it is their time to shine and share! I have told them that they can video themselves at home and bring their presentation to class on a flash drive or they can present their book talk the old fashioned way, in person!
They have been given the guide lines for their presentation and the rubric that will be used to grade their presentation. The kids can use props and be as creative as they wish. The only real rule is not to give the book's plot away! They need to give a teaser and make us want to read the book, kind of like a movie trailer does.
The schedule is posted outside my classroom door if the kids need a reminder of the date that they chose! Have fun!
